Sustainable growth in China requires new capital that doesn't chase purely high margin, but embraces social impact and considers long-term risks. In the past several years, impact investment turns to be a popular concept in China. However, what is impact investment in practice? How does it work in China? Where does this new capital come from? This panel will discuss the great opportunities and challenges of impact investment in China.

Peng YanniExecutive Deputy Secretary-General of Narada Foundation


Peng Yanni is the Executive Deputy Secretary-General of Narada Foundation and based in Beijing. She was Executive Director of United in Diversity China Fund of GT Group from October 2011 to November 2012. She worked for the British Council for 8 years from 2003 to 2011. In her capacity of Assistant Director Social Development she led the design and delivery of the Skills for Social Entrepreneurs Project which is a flagship project in social enterprise and social innovation area in China. The project has successfully promoted the concept and practice of social enterprise in China. Before joining the British Council, Peng Yanni had worked for Ministry of Civil Affairs for 6 years focusing on public services to vulnerable children. Peng Yanni holds a Master degree in Social Policy and Planning in Developing Countries from London School of Economics and Political Science, and a Bachelor degree in Business Management from Renmin University of China.





Crystal Ding, China Representative, LGT Venture Philanthropy


Crystal Ding is the China Representative of LGT Venture Philanthropy, a global impact investor supporting organizations with outstanding social and environmental impact. She is also the co-founder and President of Everlasting Capital Advisors. Ms. Ding has years of experience in private equity & venture capital investing, investment banking and management consulting. Prior to joining LGT VP, she worked as an Investment Director with CMIA Capital Partners, a private equity firm focused on growth capital opportunities in the agriculture, consumer and healthcare sectors. Before CMIA, she worked with Bertelsmann Asia Investments (BAI), a venture capital fund focusing on early-to-growth stage investments in the new media and education sectors. Previously, Ms. Ding worked in the Investment Banking division at Macquarie Bank. She also worked in the strategic investments team at Hewlett Packard, where she was responsible for strategic M&A activities for Hewlett Packard in Greater China. Ms. Ding started her career as a management consultant with KPMG Consulting。


Ms. Ding serves as Mentor for entrepreneurial education program in Tsinghua University. She received an MBA from London Business School and a bachelor degree in Economics from Fudan University.





Tao Zhang, Founder and Managing Director of Dao Ventures and China Impact Fund


Tao Zhang is founder and managing director of Dao Ventures, a U.S.-China impact investment, advisory and accelerator group with co-headquartered offices in both China and the United States that primarily consist of ACBridge Global Advisors, China Impact Fund (CIF), and New Ventures Global. The various entities of Dao Ventures have so far made and/or facilitated investments of over $200 million into China’s environmental small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Prior to this, Tao served as Global COO of New Ventures, a center of environmental entrepreneurship housed at the World Resources Institute. In this role, Tao led New Ventures' Global Hub in Washington, D.C. and its six Local Centers in Brazil, China, Colombia, India, Indonesia and Mexico in doubling investments into New Ventures portfolio companies to nearly $400 million. Tao is the lead author of Creating the Chinese Dream and China Crowdfunding Report, two key publications on impact investing in China. Tao has been a columnist for the Wall Street Journal Chinese, with a focus on how to leverage investing to cure environmental and social ills. Tao received a BA from Beijing Foreign Studies University, an MBA from Wake Forest University, and an MPA from Harvard University as a Mason Fellow. Tao is a China Fellow at the Aspen Institute and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
