Dear CSSA-UCLA members,

Which movie about China, do you think, conjured the most acclamation around the globe? How about the Golden Lion winner ¨C the Story of Qiu Ju? Perhaps more people will agree on the quadruple Oscar winner ¨C Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon? Well, you might just need to add this winner of NINE Oscars to your list ¨C the Last Emperor.
As literally put on the title, this Bernardo Bertolucci feature is a dramatized biography of Aisin-Gioro Pu Yi, a three-year-old who was crowned the successor of the Great Qing dynasty, an ambitious young man who found his long deprived royal identity in a puppet state of Japan, yet a powerless figure amid relentless civil war and revolution.
