Treasure Island in the Fens》一书作者Mr Nicholas Chrimes娓娓道来。

CSSA is pleased to welcome Mr Nicholas Chrimes to speak on ‘Cambridge:
Treasure Island in the Fens with 800 years history’. The University of
Cambridge is the second-oldest university in the English-speaking
world and the third-oldest surviving university in the world. Famed
for its glorious architecture and excellent in almost every field of
study, it had humble beginnings. The university grew out of an
association of scholars formed in 1209, who settled at Cambridge
having been expelled from Oxford after a dispute with townsfolk.
Today, Cambridge is a collegiate university with 31 colleges with six
academic faculties.

Mr Chrimes’s lecture will start with the university’s humble
beginnings, why the location was chosen in the first place, through
the years of expansion, to its significant artistic achievements
during the Northern Renaissance. This story includes the glorious
King's College Chapel, together with other buildings. He also
discusses interesting topics such as the social class of the typical
scholar over the centuries and how this is reflected in the behaviour
and leisure pastimes of students, including Cambridge’s famous
sporting achievements. Moreover, he has stayed in China for 3 months
and will share his opinion about the relationship between China and UK
wit us.
